LOGISTICS AND SUPPORT SERVICES INTERN

REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MANAGING DIRECTOR

Salary: $40,000 annually

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Logistics and Support Services Intern will lead Cinefest’s volunteer regeneration and provide event assistance and technical/service support during the Festival. The Logistics and Support Services Intern will also support Cinefest’s other ancillary events, including Cinema Summit and Cinefest’s Children’s Film Screenings.

The Logistics and Support Services Internship position is supported by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

CANIDIDATE CRITERIA

  1. Candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field.
  2. Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate.   
  3. Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
  4. Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  5. Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
  6. The position may not be remote or hybrid work.  The program requires that the intern receive direct, on-site supervision from the supervisor.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of the Logistics and Support Services Intern include:

  • coordinate volunteer recruitment, scheduling and training and will supervise/assist volunteers on location leading up to and during the Festival;
  • coordinate of Cinefest’s Children’s Film Series events. This will include reaching out to school board contacts to promote registration, booking schools and busses for attendance, acting as a primary contact;
  • offer event support/ assistance as needed, on location for Cinefest film screenings, hospitality events, Cinefest Children's Film Screenings, and Cinema Summit activities;
  • assist in the development and implementation of year-round member and volunteer engagement/appreciation strategies;
  • assist with the creation and distribution of marketing and communications materials (email marketing, mailings, newsletters);
  • assist with the development and implementation of strategies that capitalize on synergies between Cinefest Sudbury and Cultural Industries Ontario North.

INTERACTION WITH PATRONS AND PUBLIC

The Logistics and Support Services Intern will interact directly with key Cinefest partners, along with support staff, volunteers, patrons and the public at large.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

There are no day-to-day physical demands associated with the Logistics and Support Services Intern. From time to time there will be setup related to various activities, including hospitality events, that Cinefest Sudbury is involved in, that will require the Logistics and Support Services Intern’s attention.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

In general, Cinefest Sudbury operates on a 35-hour work week, 9AM to 5PM from Monday to Friday (with an hour for lunch). Due to the dictates of Cinefest activities, the Logistics and Support Services Intern can expect to occasionally work unusual hours, mainly evenings and weekends.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

The Logistics and Support Services Intern is required to demonstrate the following abilities/knowledge base:

  • Experience in event coordination. Experience with non-profit arts & culture sector organizations will be considered a definite asset;
  • Knowledge/experience with volunteering and co-ordinating volunteers;
  • Self-directed, takes initiative, possesses creative problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage and deliver on competing deadlines;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

Bilingualism will be considered an asset for this position, as Cinefest Sudbury operates on a bilingual basis.
