Marketing and Communications Assistant

Job Type: Contract Position (up to 9 weeks)

Pay: $17.60/hour, 35 hours/week

Reports to: Executive Director; Operations and Communications Manager; Lead, Development and Indigenous Programming

 

1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will be a student currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution who intends to return to school in the fall, and will work with Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival in the weeks leading up to the festival, crafting and disseminating public communications designed to generate the level of excitement and participation that Cinéfest has become known for.

 

2. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of the Marketing and Communications Assistant include (but are not limited to):

  • Accessing distributor databases to compile still images, press kits, etc., as film screenings are confirmed;
  • Assisting with promotional materials that are prepared as part of Cinéfest Sudbury’s marketing and communications plan, including writing, compiling, and editing content for the Festival’s program book, media releases, and industry brochures, while also preparing copy for online resources, such as the festival’s website and ticket platform.
  • Maintaining film submission and promotional material databases;
  • Data entry related to building customer profiles and virtual communications;
  • Assisting in the implementation of communications strategies geared at developing customer relations and providing customer support;
  • Participating in regular meetings and communication with programming, marketing, and communications departments;
  • Providing general administrative assistance to Cinéfest Sudbury's programming, marketing, and communications departments;
  • Fielding inquiries including answering phone calls/general email inquiries and routing to the appropriate internal departments as needed;
  • Assisting with box office sales and ensuring seamless customer service experiences for patrons in-office and over the phone;
  • Assisting with direct customer communications, sales, support, and engagements, through in-person, e-mail, online chat, and telephone communications.

 

3. INTERACTION WITH PATRONS AND PUBLIC

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will be required to interact directly with Cinéfest patrons through box office, e-mail, online chat, and telephone communications.

 

4. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

There are no day-to-day physical demands associated with the Marketing and Communications Assistant. From time to time there will be setup related to various activities that Cinéfest Sudbury is involved in that will require the Marketing and Communications Assistant’s attention.

 

5. WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

In general, Cinéfest Sudbury operates on a 35-hour work week, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday (with an hour for lunch).

 

6. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

The Marketing and Communications Assistant is required to demonstrate the following abilities/knowledge base:

  • The ability to maintain an organized and efficient work environment;
  • Outstanding organization and time management skills;
  • The ability to multitask effectively;
  • The ability to research using online and traditional media;
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office; especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • A high level of initiative and attention to detail;
  • Bilingualism (French and English) will be considered a principal asset, as Cinéfest Sudbury operates on a bilingual basis.
